My initial experiences in movement were always based around my love for playing sports. I only had one speed no matter which sport I played and as a result I would often end up injured. I luckily stumbled into the Brazilian dance/fight called Capoeira, in 2001 at Ohio State University, which was one of the first things to steer me down a path of learning to feel better through movement. I became more focused on body control and balance after viewing older Mestre's (Master's) of Capoeira in their 70s and 80s still able to move in such beautiful ways.
It was only by chance that I was introduced to Pilates in 2006. I was reluctant at first but when I added Pilates to my practice I found myself able to do more difficult movements with ease. Some of the moves had previously been very forced or even inaccessible to me. I was drawn in because Pilates helped me be a better athlete, but after getting an opportunity, I started to teach Pilates classes. Along the way I uncovered a real passion for learning how the body works and have been happily teaching and learning Pilates since.
After 16 years of teaching regularly, I have developed an eye for teaching and such a better understanding of some very basic principles that build a great foundation for any mover or athlete. Classes are based on a Classical Pilates routine with the focus on how each individual can appropriately build a balance of strength and flexibility through a connected core and breathing.
Pilates Education/Certifications
I have been teaching Pilates in Cincinnati Ohio since 2007. My pilates education has primarily been through the Power Pilates training program at BodyMind Balance. I started learning and teaching Pilates Mat classes and soon after went through the 600 Teacher Training program. As I continued to grow my practice I received a lot of support from my boss and mentor, Julie Cordier.
I was happy to make it through the Power Pilates Graduate program, and went on to become a Teacher Trainer for Power Pilates in 2018. I have since gotten the chance to travel to many places in and outside of the country to certify new amazing teachers, and meet so many great like minded health nuts.
In addition to my training with Power Pilates, I was fortunate enough to get accepted and complete Kathi Ross-Nash's Red Thread program and have also attended many other classes and workshops with so many amazing Pilates professionals. Getting to learn from so many great teachers has helped me gain different perspectives that have become invaluable for my learning and becoming a better teacher of this amazing system
